Sad Demise of Sri. D.N. Nagaraja Rao
It is very saddening to note that Sri D.N. Nagaraja Rao passed away on December 5, 2014 at the age of 81. Sri Nagaraja Rao was a very active librarian from Mysore. Even after his retirement in early 1990s, he was active in the professional circles and enthusiastically attending all the professional activities. He is a life member of MyLISA. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Library Science from Karnatak University, Dharwad and Masters from University of Mysore. He served the National Institute of Engineering, Mysore for nearly three decades and retired from the official service from the same institute. Later he rendered his services at Ramakrishna Vidyashala and created a database of books in CDS/ISIS during 1990s. He was very passionate for books. He had his own collection of books of more than ten thousands in his house. He even created a database of all those books in CDS/ISIS. He added the abstracts and table of contents of all the books in the database. His collection was characterized by the richness of subjects such as philosophy, personality development, religion, social sciences, English literature and library sciences. He was the habit of purchasing multiple copies of books of Ramakrishna Mission and was giving them as gifts to children and those who help him in some way. He was very proud of his own collection and as a true librarian he was enthusiastically introduce his library to those who visited his house. He was very much interested to guide children and motivate them for inculcating reading habits. At MyLISA he was the most attended member in all its activities. He was quite punctual and was keen to collect the presentations, papers and other informative literature. His interest in learning new technology, eagerness to get new ideas and hardworking nature made him a role model for many younger generation professionals. He did not lose his inquisitiveness till his death. He was interacting with many professionals in Mysore. He even pen down, recently, his own experiences under the title ‘Reminiscence of a retired librarian’. MyLISA would post that on its website after getting consent from his family members. The sad news of his journey to the permanent abode came during a Two-Day National Conference on Social Media in Libraries held jointly by SBRR Mahajana College and MyLISA. The delegates immediately pay homage to the departed soul by observing two minute silence. The delegates joined MyLISA to collectively pray the Almighty to rest his soul in eternal peace. -- Dr. Sunil M.V. Dear Professionals, I got acquainted with Shri D.N. Nagaraja Rao only after joining University of Mysore 4 years back. He was an ever green true professional even during his old age, in spite of physical health problems. He attended all programs conducted by MyLISA and UoM Library till recent days. He used encourage every one of us. His professional zeal and contributions especially the work he did at Ramakrishna Math Library should guide young professionals. I was one among those mourning sad demise of Nagaraja Rao, when we were attending two days conference at Mahajana's First Grade College on 6th Dec. May his soul in rest and pray the Almighty to give strength to his family members to bear this great loss. Regards. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dr. I.R.N. Very sad to hear of the passing away of such a dedicated and praiseworthy librarian. I had the good fortune to have some contact with him some years ago and can never forget his meticulous attention to detail. Usha Mukunda On Sat, Dec 6, 2014 at 5:31 PM, Sunil MV <sunilmysore@gmail.com> wrote:
