There have been many attempts in developing metadata and ontology in order to tame the web, which resulted in many metadata schema like Dublin Core, TEI, MODS, MARCXML etc. In the area of ontology models too the developments are reflected in the emergence of OWL and SKOS, which can be perceived in the transformation of many thesauri into either SKOS or OWL. In addition, the faceted classification system prove promising in developing ontology, as the very aim of faceted system is to provide hospitality to emerging domains and terminology. The seminar aims at bringing out the various aspects of prospective knowledge organization models for better information retrieval on the Web.
