The first issue of SLAI SCOOP, the newsletter published by the School Library Association(India) was released by Ms. Madhu Bhargava, President, SLAIndia on 22Oct. 2019. Download the Newsletter The newsletter carries a message from Ms. Katy Manck, President, International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) in which she wrote that “to be sure, the long road ahead will have highs and lows, so keep the grand goals of SLA India in mind as you persevere, uplifting one another in every circumstance”. Prof. P. B. Mangala, one of the doyens of Indian Librarianship briefly reviewed, in his write-up, the status of school or children’s libraries in India and congratulated the pioneering efforts being taken up by the Association. Prof. C. R. Karisiddappa, Prof. B. D. Kumbar, Prof. (Dr.) Sewa Singh and Dr. B. S. Kademani have also written their congratulatory messages. Messages from Dr. NVR Nathan (Educationist), Jyothy Ramachandran (Principal, Mahapragya Public School, Mumbai), Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai (Deputy Director-Chanakya Internation-al Institute of Leadership Studies (CIILS), Shobha Viswanath (Publishing Director, Karadi Tales) and Khyrunnisa A. (author of children’s fiction, speaker, academic and a columnist) were also published in the newsletter. Thinkpiece in this issue is an article, ‘School Library-A look at the essentials’ written by veteran school library professional and educationist Ms Usha Mukunda. Ms Silky Vyas and Heeru Bhojwani of American School of Bombay, Mumbai wrote a write-up ‘School Librarians: Emerging concepts and changing trends‘ under the section Reflections. Apart from this, the newsletter also consists of the results of two national-level competitions conducted by SLAIndia in connection with the World Book & Copyright Day 2019. SLAI Scoop also features the first installment of monthly columns by the President, General Secretary and Editors of the Association and news on International School Library Month and BSLA (Bandana Sen Library Awards) for Indian School Librarians 2019.
