Dear Librarians,
I have some queries to share with you.
As an eligibility for MRP Grants from UGC is :
"Only the teaching faculty of Library Science, Physical Education,
Principals and Vice-Chancellors will also be eligible to participate in the
scheme."
This criteria is limiting Librarians doing Projects.
1. May I know the reason behind excluding us?
2. Are librarians not an academic part?
3. Are librarians not eligible to conduct research?
4. Teaching and Research are two different things. Rather research is
another dedication, another motivating factor.
5. We Librarians wish to do many experiments in our libraries, therefore
UGC support will go a long way.
6. Teachers have very little scope to concentrate on research, if they are
teaching the prescribed syllabus sincerely, while librarians have limitless
scope to investigate problems, experiment new things and for that your
positive decision will prove to be motivating factor.
7. (inevitably comparing)Teachers teach what is prescribed and may be more
than what is prescribed and keep learning new things. Librarians
do practice, explore, experiment, implement, re-search what is learnt and
keep learning new things.

Dear friends, This issue was raised on this forum earlier with a lengthy debate and discussion, but without any outcome at the end. I think there is no point in 'beating the bush' on this matter, unless some concrete steps are taken by us in the right direction. In my opinion, this issue should be addressed to the UGC and AICTE by our library associations, and in particular ILA, because the Government listens only to ILA on such matters. What is ILA doing on this? Dr. M. Koteswara Rao Former Librarian, Univ of Hyderabad
