Libraries can store Electronic Copy of document held by them in Hard Copy
Dear LIS-Forum Members, During my interaction with Dr. T C James (Director, NIPO and Consultant, http://jamesthanickan.tripod.com ) I have come to know about a landmark amendment in Indian Copyright Act (The COPYRIGHT(AMENDMENI)ACT, 2012, No. 27 OF 2012, An Act further to amend the Copyright Act, 1957. ) According to these amendments, Libraries can now store Electronic Copy of document held by them in Hard Copy. The text of the relevant amendment is as follows: ... (iii) for clause (n), the following clause shall be substituted, namely:- "(n) the storing of a work in any medium by electronic means by a noncommercial public library, for preservation if the library already possesses a non-digital copy of the work;"; (iv) in clause (o), for the words "public library", the words, "non-commercial public library" shall be substituted; ...
