Re: [LIS-Forum] Copyright - MOOC (Chief Librarian, SAIACS)
Dear Sir, Please go through the Indian copyright act 1957 and its amendments in the subsequent years 1983, 1984, 1992, 1994, 1999 and 2012 for the Indian contents. This is the only authentic government document which will give you a concrete idea about whether you should go for putting the contents of moocs in the organisational moodle or not. And for other countries' contents, you have to check with their copyright policies. Regards: Archana Sahu Asst. Librarian NLUO, Cuttack

To: lis-forum Subject: [LIS-Forum] Copyright - MOOC Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Dear Professional Colleagues,
Greetings,
I have a request to seek your wisdom on the following. Kindly help me in this regard.
Recently our college has asked me to find out whether or not it is legally permitted to scan chapters / articles from books and journals to make them available in online through Moodle or any other online learning environment to the students.
Are there are any repercussions in this act?
Do we need to get copyright clearance from competent authority in order to provide those scanned chapters to our students as part of their course pack?
As we are aware of the historic judgement from the Honourable High Court of Delhi that photocopying is permissible for fair use. In USA libraries seek copyright clearance from http://www.copyright.com/
Kindly give your suggestions in this regard.
Thanking you in advance,
Regards
