Dear Sir /Madam, Greetings from Central Library, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi MHRD, under its NMEICT mission, has entrusted IIT Kharagpur to host, coordinate and set-up National Digital Library (NDL) towards building a national asset. The objective of the project is to integrate all the existing digitized and digital contents across educational institutions of the nation to provide a single-window access with e-learning facility to different groups of users ranging from primary level to higher education level of our county. NDL will harvest metadata and contents from all the Institutional Digital Repositories (IDR) of Universities and Institutions, all other digital library initiatives, and NMEICT projects and index in the National Digital Library Server so that all the e-contents can be searched and accessed in the full-text by the users through a single window. In view of the above, Central Library of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, in collaboration with NDL Project, IIT Kharagpur,is organizing a 2-day Workshop on Institutional Digital Repository for National Digital Library (NDL) Project on 01-02 September, 2016 at, JNU, New Delhi. The workshop will contextualize the roles of various Institutions in NDL and their participation through the maintenance of IDR. It will also include an advanced-level Hands-on Training for the development of IDRs in each institution so that e-contents of individual institution can be harvested and indexed by the NDL server. The following will be covered at the Workshop: NDL Project IDR* Hands-on · - National Digital Library – A Vision, Overview and Design · - Metadata Envelop for NDL · - Role of Contributing Institutions 1. - Installation of DSpace Version 5.x 2. - Configuration of DSpace (UI, OAI, ORE, Work flow model) 3. - Registry process of NDL metadata Schema into installed Dspace 4. - Uploading steps of e-content’s metadata as per NDL metadata schema * The participant will be given all required IDR software and softcopy of IDR manual. The workshop will be conducted by the faculties from Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Librarian of Central Library, and professionals from NDL Project, IIT Kharagpur. This is an important event for all the academic institutions in India to set up National Digital Library. Therefore, you are requested to kindly depute two persons –one from your Library (preferably Librarian) and another with Information Technology (IT) / Computer Science background who supports IT function of your Library.
