However, digitization efforts require significant financial investments in infrastructure and technology as well as in human resources for project management. This pre-conference session will look at issues, successes, and challenges for digitization projects in developing countries. The organizing committee invites proposals for presentations at the International Relations Round Table Pre-Conference session held during the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago on topics that address the following questions, or other relevant topics: • How are developing countries overcoming challenges and moving forward with digitization projects? • Which collections are being chosen for digitization? • What are considerations in selecting material for digitization? • How are digital collections being presented and organized? • How are potential partners/funding agencies being identified? • Success stories Submission guidelines: If interested, please submit an abstract (300 words maximum) by 31 December 2008, to Jacqueline Solis, Co-chair of the International Relations Round Table Pre-Conference, at jsolis@email.unc.edu.
