Dear Professionals, Dr. K.P. Vijayakumar: A Tribute Dr. K. P. Vijayakumar will be superannuating from service as a LIS teacher from Kerala University on 31st March 2015 after three and half decade of effective teaching and guiding many students, who have occupied many importnant positions in our field. He is basically a soft spoken and caring person towards his students and professional friends like me. His expertise in the areas of Academic Writing, Scientometrics, Open Access, Digital Libraries, Knowledge Management, etc has been harvested by Departments of LIS and ASCs of many universities and also during a number of Conferences/Seminars/Workshops/Short Term Courses conducted all over the country. As the Honorary Director of the Centre for Information Literacy Studies he gave a big thrust to Information Literacy and also delivered a number lectures at various colleges in Kerala. The Kerala Library Association is one of the best of its kind in the country, always bubbling with many quality activities, especially through its CPD in the direction of taking the profession to greater heights. KLA has made KOHA as most preferred ILMS in Kerala by conducting series of workshops. Dr. Vijayakumar’s services as General Secretary of KLA are laudable. Apart from editing few books both in Malayalam and English he has >75 research papers to his credit. Probably his retirement will create a big vacuum especially at DLIS, Kerala University. I am sure our profession and various Library Schools will make use of his services even after retirement in one way or the other. I am happy to learn that a befitting Farewell Party is being organized in honour of Dr. K.P. Vijayakumar by his students, members of AADLIS and his friends on 30th March 2015. Releasing of Festschrift Volume by Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor on this occasion is probably a nice way of thanking this teacher with human qualities. It is gratifying to note that many KLA members will be delivering Felicitation Address in this function chaired by Prof. A. Gopikuttan, President, KLA. I had few opportunities of enjoying the loving hospitality of both Mrs. and Dr. Vijayakumar during my visits to Trivandrum. I wish Dr. Vijayakumar “A HAPPY AND ACTIVE POST RETIRED LIFE BOTH IN PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL FRONTS”. I appreciate the contributions of his family members in his achievements. I pray the Lord to bless all of them with good health, prosperity and all pleasures of life. Regards, - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dr. I.R.N. Dear Dr Nair: I have known Prof. Vijayakumar for a decade or more. Above all, he is a dedicated teacher. He reminds me of the Accenture ad: 'High Performance. Delivered.' No ego. No pretences. Just plain and simple. Delivery with no failures. I heard him deliver two talks recently, once at the Malayalam University in Tirur and again at the India Public Library Conference at New Delhi. He had come prepared and delivered the talks very well. A few years ago I took three Canadian academics on a trip to Kerala with the aim of open access evangelism. One of them, a senior citizen, felt the need to meet a doctor. I turned to Vijayakumar and he organized an appointment with a doctor without any waiting time and took our friend in his own car. The professor could join the rest of us on a long road trip the same day! Every time I was in Trivandrum, Vijayakumar will ask me to meet his students and I enjoyed the opportunity. On my last trip, he asked me to address the participants of the Academic Staff College refresher programme as well. I respect him both as a person and as a teacher. He is a role model for young LIS professionals. The university rules may consider him superannuated. I know he has a very long innings of productive work. I wish him, his family and his students all the very best. Arun On Thu, Mar 26, 2015 at 11:46 AM, Saji S Nair <sajikalliyoor@gmail.com> wrote:
