Dear Professionals, The Digital Library and Information Centre of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka is organizing one day seminar on “Professional Standards & Quality Improvement in Health Science Libraries” on 26th October 2005 at 10.00 a.m. at Dhanwanthri Hall, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, 4th T Block, Jayanagar, Bangalore-560 041. This seminar is being organized to evolve the Standards and Policies required for collection development, Library Services, ICT Infrastructure, Staff pattern- Qualifications, job-description and analysis, status-and-pay structure etc towards the development of high quality competence and performance in all the affiliated college Libraries of RGUHS in the State of Karnataka. Information Resources, Services, Infrastructure, and Manpower are the specific issues on focus for evolving standards through this seminar for quality improvement in Health Science Libraries under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. A steady growth can be seen in the Health Science Library sector under the leadership of RGUHS, Karnataka as far as the quality of collection development and information services are concerned. But there is a an immediate need of standardization required for the staff development, collection development, budgetary provisions, ICT infrastructure, performance, competence and excellence. This situation called for organizing the seminar with the objective of bringing out standards and policies on the issues indicated and finding out solutions to the burning issues of standards in resources, services, staff pattern of professionals, semi-professionals and supporting staff required in health science libraries; qualifications, experience, status and payscales; continuing education and IT skills development etc. The Librarians of health science institutions are hereby requested to participate and take an active part in making this seminar a success and evolve the necessary standards.
