Mr Mick Bass, HP's Research Manager responsible for DSpace, will provide an overview of the DSpace system and describe a range of supporting efforts to which HP and MIT are contributing. Mick will describe the functionality of the current and upcoming 1.2 release of the DSpace system, and the DSpace Roadmap beyond the 1.2 release. He will also describe SIMILE (web.mit.edu/simile) a current research activity which aims to augment DSpace using Semantic Web Components and Techniques to provide end-to-end support for capturing, navigating, browsing, and searching heterogeneous community-specific schemes, metadata, and content types.
