25th Year to LIS-Forum...Thank you for making it a silver jubilee Forum!
Dear LIS friends, Greetings from IISc Library team!. It’s our pleasure to let you all know that, your lis-forum is into its Silver Jubilee Year. As many of you are aware, LIS-forum was conceived and implemented by Late Dr. TB Rajashekar and his team at NCSI, IISc in the year 1995 with financial support from NISSAT, DSIR, Govt. of India. Entire NCSI team had worked on this to ensure its success through creation of awareness and penetration of the forum among LIS-community across the nation. The roots went so deep and became stronger as a result today we see the Forum as one of the most popular, credible and reliable text based discussion forum for the LIS community in India and the forum has many subscribers from outside India too. Personally, I was fortunate to see the beginnings of LIS-Forum as I was a trainee at NCSI. The forum has played a key in my professional learning and growth - particularly to know accomplished professionals and their views on various topics. I always cherished reading emails from experts. I have read some experts emails multiple times...as they were informative and insightful... Thank you for being part of the forum, choosing it as your platform for communication. You, your association with the forum and your communications on the forum made it what it is today. Entire LIS-community has benefited from it. Looking forward to your continued support to retain the Forum as a preferred communication channel. Sustenance of LIS-forum for 25 years was not an easy task. Sad demise of Dr.TB Rajashekar and closure/merger of NCSI made it really difficult. However, Dr. Francis Jayakanth, JRD Tata Memorial Library, is the one who stood behind this and ensured that it worked for us flawlessly and made it always available for our LIS- community. He did this job even when he was on Lien for 2 years . Dr. Francis Upgraded the software recently and we are currently hosting it on a new server at the IISc. Library. Dr. Francis, we can’t thank you enough for your professional commitment and ownership to the forum....we owe you a lot....we wish you will have courage and commitment to extend support. In today’s social media driven world, text based discussion forums may look dry and dull. However, for serious, clean and clear communications text based forums are still preferred - world over. And LIS-forum is one of its kind. That doesn’t mean that we don’t look forward to upgrade it to next level - please share your thoughts briefly and will see if we all can work together on them..... Many Congratulations to all those who were and who are involved in making this forum a popular and visible one. Thanks to Dr Francis for taking all the pains in moderating the messages. As an alumni of NCSI (1992) I was one among the first to be in the forum. The forum has witnessed many hot and controversial discussions, many announcements, and has given an opportunity to each and every professional who is subscribing to this group to know the latest developments. Let this forum complete it's golden jubilee, diamond jubilee, centenary and many more such years. Thanks to one and all On Mon, Jun 3, 2019, 15:34 Ananda Byrappa <anand.byrappa@gmail.com> wrote:

Congratulations! Anand & Francis. 25 years of long sustained journey of LIS-Forum is an amazing success. The team and Francis in particular, deserve a big applause for the stupendous and voluntary task of running this Forum. It is the most popular medium today for LIS profession to exchange news and views. Long live LIS-Forum, and long-live the memory of Late Rajashekhar, the brain behind this Forum. May be, it is also time to reimagine and re-model this forum to a full-blown social networking medium for the Group. N. V. I second the views expressed by the members. For a successful story you need someone who do the tasks silently and continuously. So the credit goes to Dr. Francis. I also agree that social media offers many advantages over mailing lists but there is lot of useless stuff that one has to keep accepting. Congratulations to the Team that has kept the LIS Forum alive and kicking! Special thanks to Francis for his efforts in this direction. Keep it up Francis! Anand : Very nice of you to have remembered and paid tribute to your mentor -- Dr.T.B. Rajashekar. These days no body remembers the past especially their mentors! Historical Amnesia a disease of the present times! Perhaps this give us an opportunity to say our encomiums to our departed friend Raju and his pioneering efforts in the field of LIS. Personally for me as well, the silver jubilee of LIS Forum is a commemoration of a shared journey filled with nostalgia. I was also perhaps one of the early subscribers to LIS Forum. Raju shared the news of launching the forum and asking me to join. I have been part of this Forum since 1995. I remember getting some of my students of LIS at University of Mysore to conduct some studies based on LIS-Forum. Hurrah to the team! Long Live LIS-Forum! This is really great Dr.Ananad. I have personally benefited immensely from Lis Forum then as a LIS student and continue to benefit as a practitioner and teacher even after more than two decades. What a remarkable space for all of us this has become !!!! I have seen many new things come and go. But LisForum has stood with our profession like a rock, year after year. It takes more than just infrastructure to sustain a service of this magnitude. Dr.T B Rajashekhar and Dr.Francis will be remembered forever for their commitment and dedication in nurturing LisForum. Dear Dr. Anand, LIS-Forum deserves celebrations! Hats up to the contributions of Late Dr. Rajashekar sir and his team, especially the silent worker Dr. Francis. I appreciate the support of IISc. I have immensely benefited from the discussion forum starting from my early days in the profession. I was fortunate to be associated with the Forum almost from beginning owing to some of the friends, who were working with NCSI as trainees. Over a period of time, I have seen many deliberations on various issues and also learnt about events, technologies and other announcements made by professional colleagues. I am happy that, even today, in the era of social media, the forum has kept its relevance. Congratulations to the entire team of LIS-Forum on the occasion of its silver jubilee. Dear Dr.Anand, I say congrats humbly and was among the first few to subscribe to it, when I visited NCSI somewhere in August 95 and Dr. Rajashekar guided me to subscribe. What an agonising feeling having lost him,but the lisforum makes him alive. It has been most cordial site and many of us loved to contact in the early years but of late the use has been rather diminished, and is used just for seeking a periodical article. Dear LIS friends,
Greetings from IISc Library team!.

Dear Forum members, Remembering pioneers and action heroes is one way to associate ourselves with the celebration and pay our respects to the owners who started the move. Leaders start the action and others will carry it forward. Rajashekhar started Lis-forum move for LIS fraternity and Francis gave backbone support to sustain the movement. Keeping the forum live for more than two decades requires lot of dedicated service and participation by individuals. No-posting or Nil-response also kills the platform. Members' active participation is one of the success factors for forum's survival over two decades. I am one of the few who joined the forum in its initial years and had opportunity to meet both Rajashekhar and Francis. I saw concerns and love of our professionals on this forum while reading their views on professional issues. Lis-forum provided freedom of expressions and Francis took lot of pain to screen some objectionable messages. Hats off to Francis for his endurance and passion for profession. We Manipal librarians had fruitful time with Francis when came to Manipal for e-prints project. Still we have our live repository on e-prints. Request to all my professional colleagues, Let us keep the forum very active with our active participation and positive to respond other colleagues' requests. Let us not pull down our profession by throwing mud or anger on individuals on this public platform. I am delighted to know that our LISFORUM is celebrating silver jubilee. Congratulations to Dr Francis Jayakanth and his whole team who relentlessly worked for so many years to keep up the promise and vision of late Dr T B Rajashekar. I could still remember so many heated debates on various contemporary issues went on for days, until the moderator put a full stop. To many of us belonging to the second generation library professionals, lisforum was a boon for interacting with colleagues across the country. In the days of double-floppy disc PCs, CDSisis, dialup modem, single CD drives, Dialog search on a Telex machine, LISFORUM was considered a wonder. The text-based discussions always help users to improve their english and communications skills, particularly for today’s youngsters. I wish LISFORUM many more years of fruitful service. Wishing you Happy Silver Jubilee Celebrations to LIS Forum, congratulations for completing 25 years meaningful service to LIS Professionals in the country and abroad. I am using this Forum for 17 years since when I strolled into this noble profession from Karnatak University, Dharwad. Dear Anand A great occasion. Congratulations to the founders and the team managing it currently. Thanks to Dr. T.B Rajashekar for starting this forum and thanks to Dr. Francis for operating it tirelessly. This is probably the only forum that is national in it's scope and has tremendous educational value to all of us. I personally owe a lot to this forum for keeping myself updated with happenings, professional developments and also emerging technologies. LIS forum is a great source of information, education and networking. It connects the LIS professionals irrespective of their experience, age and expertise. I have seen some excellent discussions that keep us engaged and also enrich us. I am grateful to all the people who have made this forum a honest space to express and keep discussions focussed and unbiased. Thanks to all LIS professionals who contribute to the forum by their participation. There are many interesting things that can be initiated and am sure will see them soon in this forum and I personally look forward to seeing them soon.
