Re: [LIS-Forum] Re-imagining LIS Education: An Online Dialogue between LIS Teachers & Librarian - 11am-1pm. Sep 5, 2020 (Saturday)

Dear Dr.Anand Byrappa
Thank you for your message. Indeed it's a critical topic to be discussed, deliberated, implemented successfully through a strategic plan of action to improve the present Librarianship and LIS education in India. Libraries are well prepared to handle situation like COVID 19 pandemic situation than any other service sector in the education field through OPAC, Remote Access, Virtual Reference, Digital Library, etc. but very few will acknowledge this type proactive initiative taken by the Library community; we must thank SRELS and Informatics, Prof. Shalini Urs for initiating the discussion on this contemporary issue. I hope this webinar will remain in the LIS community's memory in the long term delivered during the webinars' cyclone. Some actions will be taken by the Library Community to fill the knowledge gap between the demand and supply of LIS workforce in the country by considering the current digital era.
With Regards

Dear All,
Happy teachers day.
Thanks to SRELS and Informatics for organising the following unique and
much needed programme. It was wonderful to watch candid discussions
between LIS practioners and teachers on the day of teachers day. It was
very well conceived, planned, moderated and conducted by Prof. Shalini Urs,
as always.
It will be beneficial to the profession If we start similar discussion with
LIS associations.
In the context of New Education Policy 2020 and unexpected Pandemic
situation. Getting together and working for strengthening the LIS
profession is essential.
We need many more good libraries and good LIS schools in the country to
improve the professional image. Teachers, Practioners and associations
ought to work together to reposition the LIS profession. It’s very critical
to attract better students to the LIS schools.
Delays in addressing transformation needs , Not fixing the gaps between
teachers and practioners and ignoring low professional image/ perception
may eventually Result in further dilution of the profession. If this
happens, our generation is responsible for it!
Again, Thanks to the organisers for the wonderful event.
Thanks and Regards
Anand
