Data Mining with Weka by Ian WittenMOOC ( September 9) and a Tutorial at the ICADL 2013 Register

Dear LIS Professionals, We have been talking about repositioning the LIS profession for a while now. Here is an opportunity for the profession to retool itself with some of the emerging tools and technologies that are redrawing the boundaries of the field. Data Mining is one such area and we have Prof. Ian Witten who is familiar to the LIS profession through his Greenstone Digital Library software to give a tutorial on the topic “Data Mining with Weka” at the ICADL 2013. This is a great opportunity to learn to deploy the Open Source Data Mining Software Weka. I am sure everyone will agree with me that it is a rare opportunity to learn software directly from the developer of the software and an author of the book on the subject. Prof. Witten is the developer of the software Weka and also the author of the book “Data Mining: Practical Machine Learning Tools and Techniques,” the third edition which was published in January 2011 by Morgan Kaufmann Publishers. You can also enroll for the upcoming MOOC called "Data Mining with Weka" which is now open at http://weka.waikato.ac.nz Where there's link to a short video trailer (on YouTube). The course will start on 9th September and extends over 5 weeks. It features: · Video lectures · Practical activities and online assessment · Extracts from Data Mining (3rd Edition): Witten, Frank & Hall (2011) The video lectures are fully captioned -- in English -- to make it easier for non-native English speakers to understand. You can also follow the course via Twitter or the blog: https://twitter.com/WekaMOOC http://wekamooc.blogspot.co.nz/ To learn more in person attend the tutorial on " Data mining with Weka" at the ICADL 2013 (http://www.isim.ac.in/icadl2013/tutorials.html) Dr. Shalini R.Urs Chair, ICADL 2013 & Executive Director and Professor International School of Information Management University of Mysore Manasagangotri Mysore - 570006 Phone : + 91 821 2514699 Fax : + 91 821 2519209 www.isim.ac.in ISiM - Management School of IT.
