Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research and Training Centre Seminar- 5 Digital Divide: An overview with special emphasis on India Abstract Digital divide, a generic term refers to the social and economic inequalities in regard to the use, access and overall the impact of information and communication technologies. In this seminar, we will conceptualize the idea of the digital divide, its types and illustrate its various aspects and impacts on the society especially in the context of India. We will discuss the various initiatives that have been taken place in bridging the digital divide in India. We will also discuss the potential supportive roles that libraries and information centers can play in this context including the issues and challenges.
