DRTC Colloquium (2) 2008-2010
INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE Documentation Research and Training Centre 8TH Mile, Mysore Road Bangalore 560059 DRTC Colloquium (2) 2008-2010 Social Networking Technologies and Applications Abstract The proliferation of the World Wide Web has resulted in a virtual migration of human beings. This is different from real life, physical human dynamics. Social media and emergent platforms, mostly powered by the Open Source Movement and under various open licenses, have resulted in codifying and structuring this online Brownian motion evidenced by human beings. Therefore, a need has arisen to understand the technologies underlying these changes and the exposition that these technologies may have in different application domains. Virtual structures of human beings are denoted as social networks in the digital environment. This colloquium seeks to further the understanding of social networks as facilitated by different social media applications. This colloquium also aims at understanding how emerging social network technologies helps in transforming the structure of web and their potential impact on library applications. 1.
