IATLIS - good theme and sub-themes
IATLIS National Conference 2007 It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that the IATLIS 2007 Annual National Conference is going to be organized in Karnatak University, Dharwad, during 19-21 November 2007. The past 23 conferences have made a land mark in presenting and projecting the professional image as well as efforts to coping with the fast changing subject field. Considerable attention is paid to select the burning issues for the discussion and also modest attempt is made to evolve the viable resolutions in the respective conferences. Many of the vital resolutions were sent to the concerned authorities for consideration and taking needful action. Keeping in view the rich tradition of IATLIS in organizing the National level meets and the growing participation specially the younger generation of LIS teachers and researchers, the council has decided to select the following theme for the ensuring conference Equity of LIS education in IT-based pedagogical environment of the knowledge society. Sub themes are; 1. The Educational environment 2. Governance and Policies 3. Pre-service and in-service teacher education 4. teaching practices 5. Assessment practices 6. Evaluation of Personnel and Curricular Materials 7. Individualized Educational Planning 8. Data Collection and Accountability 9. Partnership Building among schools of library / information sciences and industry. 10. Accomplishment of industry standards based on educational reform 11. Introducing specialty and super specialty courses in various subjects in the IT environment 12. On demand education (or customized education) for the industry needs. The focus of equity of LIS education in an inequitable system of haves and have-nots is to achieve equal higher standard to all the students irrespective of location of the schools / departments of library and information science (rural, small cities or metropolitan cities) including the distance education. The equity needs to be developed without compromising the quality of education across the country in todays highly complex and diverse society. The knowledge society demands all LIS students/professionals to reach as high level of academic excellence as possible. The brainstorming is targeted to evolve equity b sharing expertise, curriculum, content and pedagogy for better learning between haves and have-nots. The new partnership is inevitable to achieve equality and to eliminate current inequities by identifying specific indicators. The contributions of all the learned professionals help educators and policy-makers to examine and improve the total educational system. It is hoped that all the members of the IATLIS fraternity and the fellow professional colleagues will take keen interest in contributing thoughtful papers based on research and the experience gained and participate in large number.
