Thanks for sharing this piece of learned discussion regarding viability of Digitization for long term storage. The significance of Digitized media for the ease of use over the Web is well established. However, it is not a permanent solution from the point of view of archiving cultural records. The change in technology after an interval of every 15-20 years necessitates redoing the whole work once again. This transformation whereas at once is a costly affair (involving new investment for hardware & software) and on the other hand significant data is often lost. The old tested technology of microfilming is a better alternative for the purpose of long term storage. Therefore, a practical approach will be to convert our analogue media into both these media.
