Dear Colleagues I am pleased to inform you that Shri Anup Kumar Das of JNU has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India on 08-07-2009 for the thesis titled "An Evaluative Study of Some Selected Libraries in India Undergoing the Process of Digitization". This doctoral work was jointly supervised Dr. Chaitali Dutta of Jadavpur University and Prof. B.K. Sen of INSDOC. *Abstract* Digitization of library materials provides an excellent opportunity to widely disseminate our documentary heritages and greatly increases access to library collections of rare documents as well as current research literature. Indian digitization initiatives aim at producing a vast amount of digitized documents pertaining to different forms of recorded human knowledge, ranging from the rare manuscripts to current research literature. This work contains six chapters in all, viz. 1: Introduction 2: India’s Largest Digitization Initiative - Digital Library of India 3: Digitization Work for Theses and Dissertations 4: Digitization of Documentary Heritage Collections: Cases of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and National Mission for Manuscripts 5: Digitization of Indian Journals 6: Conclusion and Recommendations Some of the chapters have already published as monograph, journal articles and conference papers that can be downloaded from http://anupkumardas.blogspot.com .
