Libraries have the power to create a better world; they connect communities, promote literacy and spark lifelong learners. But there's one thing that keeps people away: the fear of overdue book fines. In this thought-provoking talk, librarian Dawn Wacek makes the case that fines don't actually do what we think they do. What if your library just ... stopped asking for them altogether? Watch the TED Talk at https://www.ted.com/talks/dawn_wacek_a_librarian_s_case_against_overdue_book... Also you will find quite a few interesting TED talks in this webpage. With regards -- hrmohan

I have an announcement for those of you who are users of PubMed. I'm developing a current awareness tool that allows users to build subject-specific reports on weekly additions to PubMed. It's freely available at http://biomed.news It conducts no PubMed searches. Instead, it uses machine learning on the choices of its users. This allows for current awareness that is both more flexible and easier to use. Comments welcome. -- Cheers, Thomas Krichel http://openlib.org/home/krichel skype:thomaskrichel
