Re: [LIS-Forum] LIS-Forum Digest, Vol 177, Issue 33
Dear Friends, SALIS, Library professional Association, Tamil Nadu started drafting representation to MHRD for restoring the status of Librarian of NITs, IITs, NCTE and other institution in the country. It also planning to submit the representations to the MPs with a request to raise the matter in the parliament. I request all the friends to initiate such moves in the respective state and join hand with us to struggle for the rights. with regards, P. Mounissamy Recently MHRD released the recruitment rules for non-teaching staff of National Institutes of Technology. It is surprising and shocking to note that Librarian has been made on contractual/deputation. The Dy. and Asst. Librarians Grade pays have been decreased to Rs.7600 and 5400 respectively instead of Rs.8000 and Rs.6000/. Incumbents who are already appointed in the GP of of Rs.8000 and Rs.6000/- will be moved to Rs.8600 and 6600 respectively after five years of services. The post of Assistant Librarian does not require UGC-NET qualification but made it desirable. NITs, institutes of National Importance, are raising their status to world class by demotivating and degrading the Library staff. Now this is a slow poison for NITs and slowly the will be introduced to all other institutions. I bring this matter to the notice of professional friends and associations to rise the matter with MHRD to restore the status of Library professionals at NITs at par with UGC rules. With regards, P. Mounissamy

i want to extend the discussion which P. Mounissamy made in his email. The MHRD degraded the position of Dy.Librarian/Asst.Librarian in NIT. The NCTE also abolished the post of Librarian in Teaching cadre and suggested to appoint Librarian with B.Lib in Non academic staff. As a result the post of Librarian in Government Degree colleges in Education which is in UGC pay scale is abolished by the state govt.of Maharashtra. It will result in many aided college and in future the existing post in UGC pay scale will be abolished. The policy regarding the library personnel is changing very adversely and will hurt the library profession. In the era of globalization and IT ,where the world is giving priority to knowledge management to serve the knowledge society. Our country policy makers are doing wrong and will affect the future of the country. The Library & Information Professional Association should raise the issue to MHRD and the concerned authority. This is the time of struggle for LIS professionals.

Dear All, With reference to the above posting, as the moderator of the LIS-Forum discussion list, I would like to draw the attention of all the members on points mentioned below:
1. While making a fresh posting to the lis-forum, do not merely use the 'Reply' command to an existing lis-forum mail. Instead, use the 'Compose a new mail' command, or something equivalent, on your email client, provide a suitable 'Subject' to your mail, and make sure that you provide your affiliation details.
2. Members receiving lis-forum mails in 'Digest' mode, when they have to reply to a specific mail in the digest, make sure to modify the 'Subject' of the mail to which they are replying to. If they fail to do that, the 'Subject' of such mails would appear similar to the 'Subject' of this mail. In the process, the thread of the original mail is lost. Also, they should discard rest of the mails from the digest other than the one to which reply is being made.
3.If the posting meant for lis-forum has to be be sent to number of other lists, or individuals, kindly use the 'Bcc' option instead of Cc. When the 'Cc' option is used, all the email IDs in the 'Cc' will be part of the lis-forum posting, which is unnecessary.
I hope that all the members will take note of the above points, and adhere to them so that the moderator doesn't have to spend more time than required in moderating lis-forum mails.
With best wishes for the new year 2018,
Sincerely, Francis
