To mark the Librarian's Day celebrations, the Maulana Azad Library of the
Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with ProQuest South Asia
organised a National Seminar on 'Transforming Users into Precision
Researchers' on 09th August, 2016 at the Library's Cultural Hall.
During the welcome address, Dr Nabi Hasan, University Librarian introduced
the purpose of this seminar in the current day environment and highlighted
the importance of the precision researching. He highlighted that AMU is
ranked number one in the Theses Repository of the Government of India with
maximum submissions, hosted on ShodhGanga and also ranked number one by
NAAC in the category of University Libraries with second largest library
system of its kind in Asia after China.
Dr. Ramesh Gaur, Librarian, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi, who
attended the seminar as the keynote speaker addressed the gathering on
'Changing role of libraries and librarians.' He highlighted how the
librarians can provide better services and guide the students and faculty
for better researching.
Dr Gaur praised the University Librarian, Dr Nabi Hasan for taking
initiatives of conducting seminars on most relevant and current themes.
Meanwhile, experts from ProQuest South Asia, Mr Prathap Das and Mr
Shashank discussed different ways of doing research using the information
products available in the AMU.
Prof Rizwan Khan, Director, IQAC, AMU spoke about the use of resources for
enhancing the quality of research and research output of the university
which may result in better Citation and H-Index of the university. He said
that this can secure better ranking for AMU at national and international
level.
In his presidential address, Prof Khan talked about how a library staff
can transform a user into precision researcher. He praised the efforts of
University Librarian and library staffs in organizing seminar on such a
wonderful theme.
Dr Jafar Iqbal spoke on ETD@AMU and shared the current status of theses
and dissertations at AMU.
In Question/Answer session, the participants deliberated on different
aspects covered in the seminar.
Dr Amjad Ali, Deputy Librarian proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Asif
Fareed Siddiqui, Assistant Librarian conducted the program.
Librarians' Day is celebrated on the occasion of birth anniversary of
Padmashree Dr S R Ranganthan, father of Library Science in India.
