Recently NASA has released "World Wind 1.3" as open source software. World Wind lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. Leveraging Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, World Wind lets you experience Earth terrain in visually rich 3D, just as if you were really there. As of now US is well covered with up to one meter resolution, INDIA and many other parts of world have a resolution of 15 meters (its better than having nothing). For US we may even see our cars but for India only up to the nearby village, river and mountain. This is an innovative, really interesting and very useful software for everyone interested in GIS / Geographical information. Broadband connection is recommended to download, as the software is a big 171MB size file.
