Invitation for III Dr. T.B. Rajashekar Memorial Lecture- Reminder
Dear Members/Friends, On Behalf of NCSI-Net, an informal association comprising of NCSI staff, trainees,and its alumni, we cordially invite you to the III Dr. T.B. Rajashekar Memorial Lecture. The details of the lecture are given below: Title: "Scientometrics with special emphasis on measuring Scientific productivity" (Kindly note that in the previous announcement there was a typographical error in the title of the talk. RSVP: ramya@ncsi.iisc.ernet.in / hipandian@gmail.com / 22933273 About the Speaker: Prof. Ravichandra Rao is on the Faculty of DRTC, ISI, Bangalore. Currently he is the Head and Professor of DRTC. Earlier, he was Head of the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore Centre from Oct. 2002 to Sept. 07 Prof. Rao joined DRTC in 1970. Since then he is been involved in teaching and research in applied statistics, (-- bibliometrics / informetrics and scientometrics), programming, library automation, information retrieval, information management and DBMS with special emphasis on bibliographical databases. He has been on several UNESCO/UNDP missions. Prof. Rao has also worked as a Visiting Professor at Limburgs University (now known as University of Hasselt), Diepenbeek, Belgium in 1990, 2001,2007 and at Addis Ababa University in 1990. He has visited a number of library schools in India as a resource person to deliver a series of special lectures. In the early 1970's he was involved in developing software to provide SDI service based on locally developed databases. This software was implemented for the first time in India on an experimental basis at BHEL, Hyderabad in 1975. Prof. Rao was a founder Executive Committee Member of the International Society for Scientometrics / Informetrics, The Netherlands. till 2005. Prof. Rao's research interests include growth and obsolescence of literature, library statistics, theories of bibliometrics, scientometrics and informetrics; Library automation, information retrieval, information management, in addition to the development of software for library applications. Based on his research and teaching experience, he has authored two books (-- Quantitative Methods in Library and Information Science and Library Automation (it has been translated into Portuguese language.)) Both the books have been recognized as textbooks for students at the post-graduate level in some of the Indian and foreign Universities. He has edited a number of seminar volumes both at the national and international levels and also was a Guest Editor for a few journals in Information field in India. He has more than sixty research papers to his credit and has reviewed a number of books and articles.
