CALL FOR PAPERS – UNISA LIS RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
UNISA, SCHOOL OF BUSINESS LEADERSHIP, MIDRAND
28 – 29 JULY 2011
We are pleased to invite you to submit a paper for the Library and Information Science Research symposium of the University of South Africa (UNISA) to be held on 28 to 29 July 2011 at the School
of Business Leadership, Midrand, South Africa.
About LIS research symposium
The LIS research symposium is held annually and is co-hosted by the Department of Information Science and UNISA Library. This will be the 6th Annual symposium. Its main purpose is to
share knowledge and stimulate critical debate on research-related library and information science issues.
Theme and sub-themes
This year’s theme is ‘Information Provision – Towards 2020 and Beyond’. It is well
acknowledged that information provision is rapidly changing largely due to the dynamic information users and their needs, technological developments and changing formats that carry information. Information provision and LIS education and training therefore
require a consistent and continuous review so that the LIS sector remains relevant in the present time and in future.
In view of the above brief introduction of the theme, the symposium is intended to cover, among others, the following sub-themes:
·
Changing information seeking and user behaviour patterns
·
Current and future information needs of users
·
The impact of new technology on the LIS sector
·
Future-ready information professionals (eg attitude, skills, education and training)
·
The focus of LIS research
Who should attend?
The symposium is open to all information workers such as academics, especially those involved in curriculum development; information professionals, and anyone interested in the latest trends in
information science education and training, LIS management and information technology.
