I am sad to understand the demise of Eugene Garfield, the father of citation indexing. He is an information scientist of the highest order. As a student of LIS, I have read some of his writings. His writings are lucid and critical. His series 'Essays of an information scientist' are all classics in their right. I recollect for having read a tribute on Ranganathan in that series, which showed that Garfield was a person who gives credit where it is due. He was a prolific author. It is not surprising that he is a much-cited author and has an h-index of 28 (WoS). With his departure from this world, I feel, there is void which is tough to fill. Let his soul rest in peace. N.S. He was recently fitted with a pacemaker and was in a rehab place to gain strength before he came home on Wednesday, March 1. Unfortunately he fell and hit his head causing massive bleeding in the brain, as he was on a blood thinner.
I will keep you all informed about a memorial to celebrate Gene’s life as and when we plan one.
Love,
Meher
