Dear All, Greetings from the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore! The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan in collaboration with Karnataka State Library Association (KALA), Cologne Public Library, Germany and EDUTECH, is happy to invite you to a one day event, Makerspaces in Libraries: Day-out with smart technologies. Making and makerspace is one of the prevailing trends which has penetrated in to everyday discourse. Libraries around the world are providing makerspaces, which facilitate learning, sharing hands-on activities with digital and electronic tools such as 3D Printers, 3D Scanners, Laser Cutters, DIY Robotics, AR, VR, as well as more traditional tools, such as sewing machines and wood working materials. The highlight of this event is a POP UP Makerspace with hands-on sessions with equipments like 3D Printer, LEGO Robotics, little bits electronic building blocks, Internet of Things (IOT) etc. where you can: • Design and print an object using 3D Printer • Play virtual reality games • Build, program and run a Robot using Lego Education Mindstorms EV3 • Create Internet of Things (IOT) projects like smart home automation, automatic pet feeder etc using littlebits electronic building blocks • Create and execute Art Projects using the electronic invention kit: Makey Makey, floor robot: sphero Event: Makerspaces in Libraries: Day-out with smart technologies at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore Speakers: Dr. Hannelore Vogt (Prerecorded Presentation), Shameema Parveen and Sheshagiri Kulkarni Nature of event: Talks by experts and hands on sessions Date: 5.8.2017, Saturday, 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Venue: Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore Entry Free on first come first served basis on pre-registration basis. Speakers: Dr Hannelore Vogt, Director of Cologne’s prize-winning city library, talks to us on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in Libraries (Prerecorded presentation). Dr. Vogt is the director of the Cologne Public Library since 2008. Before that she was head of the Würzburg City Library which has been the winner in the national library ranking (BIX) four times in row and was elected „Library of the Year“. 2015 Cologne City Library was elected “Library of the Year” as best library in Germany. She is a member of the IFLA Metropolitan Libraries Standing Committee, a longtime chair of the Advisory Board “Information and Library” of the Goethe Institute and worked as a Strategic Advisor and Reviewer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Global Libraries, Global Development). Apart from having a degree in Librarianship, she also has a PhD in Cultural Management in the field of library marketing. Shameema Parveen, CEO and Co-founder of EDUTECH would be presenting her thoughts on Conception and Technologies of Makerspaces. Shameema Parveen is the Co-Founder and CEO of EDUTECH, a leading provider of learning solutions and services globally. Shameema co-founded EDUTECH Middle East in the year 1991, and has held various positions within the company since then and has helped in the growth of the company in various countries. In pursuit of her passion for technology and learning, she frequently presents papers in leading conferences related to Learning and Technologies.
