Faculty in which LISc to be grouped

Dear Professionals,
It is known that LISc is a multidisciplinary in nature. Therefore, it is
better to treat LISc as Professional Course like Engineering and Medical.

It's a nice question and some where it also fall under Arts. These variations are clear indication that LIS profession is loosing it's Identity. Library professionals employment condition is similar wether they are teaching or non teaching?
Neither our top leaders nor associations take up the matter and place themselves in appropriate place in the universe of knowledge.
I have doubt about the existence of this profession itself as per current Indian scenerio?

In the University of Mysore, the discipline of Library and Information Science is grouped under the faculty of Science & Technology. In some places it comes under the faculty of social sciences. So, my request to the professionals is, under which subject (faculty) Library and Information Science should be included. Valuable inputs of the LIS members will be highly appreciated in this regard.

Sorry, Mr Saravanan’s argument is ridiculous. Our LIS courses both at UG and PG level don’t even fit into regular UG/PG streams. How can they be treated on par with Engg. Or Medicine which are more than 4 year courses? Dr m Koteswara Rao Sent from my iPhone

The question that you have raised about the grouping of our decipline (LIS) in a university set up is quite interesting.
Also, the fact that the library professionals who are known primarily for their organising skills, are still struggling to classify their own subject (LIS) in the universe of knowledge, is equally interesting.
As we all know, the LIS is a multidisciplinary subject that derives theories, concepts, methods and tools from various other disciplines to organise the knowledge properly.
We extensively use the 'technology' to make our work of organising the knowlege systematically and to provide an easy and quick access to it for the benefit of our users. But, the extensive use of technology cannot be a ground to place the LIS under the ' Faculty of Technology'.
We always use scientific methods to study the information needs of our users and adopt scientific approach to organise and manage the collection of information resources. But this will not support our decision to place the LIS under the ' Faculty of Science'.
The ultimate aim of our profession is to provide right information to the right person at the right time in order to help him contribute to the development of the society. Hence, the only 'right' place to categorise the LIS would be the 'Faculty of Social Sciences' . A majority of the universities have already done this.
These are my personal views.
