Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research & Training Centre Bangalore 560 059 Seminar on Knowledge Representation and Digital Libraries includes Workshop on advanced DSpace 17th -18th February, 2011 http://drtc.isibang.ac.in/krdl Knowledge organization and representation is a major challenge in harnessing information on the Web for effective retrieval and the realization of semantic web. There have been many attempts in developing metadata and ontology in order to tame the web, which resulted in many metadata schema like Dublin Core, TEI, MODS, MARCXML. In the area of ontology models too the developments are reflected in the emergence of OWL and SKOS, which can be perceived in the transformation of many thesauri into either SKOS or OWL. In addition, the faceted classification systems prove promising in developing faceted ontologies. In view of the recent developments Documentation Research and Training Center, Indian Statistical Institute announces Knowledge Representation and Digital Libraries seminar that aims at bringing out the various aspects of prospective knowledge organization and representation models for better information retrieval on the Web through special invited lectures. The second topic focuses on a workshop on digital libraries. DSpace has emerged as a major software for digital repositories and in India the most widely used software.
