Dear All, INDEST-AICTE and National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NITR) are jointly organizing a Workshop on “Library 2.0 practices”, during January 15-17, 2009. Introduction Web 2.0, the second phase of World Wide Web (WWW), is seen as an exciting evolution. Web 2.0 practices have tremendous implications on libraries and usher them into a new order, which is termed as library 2.0. Library 2.0 is more about connections rather than collections. It is all about participation. The fundamental 2.0 tools, particularly blog and wiki, offer clear opportunities for libraries and information centers to practice services which are more user inclusive than ever before. It is time for librarians and information managers to reorient initiatives by employing 2.0 tools to provide users an effective service with rich experience. In view of the above trend, the library of NIT Rourkela has done some successful initiatives. To pass the knowledge gained, in the course of initiating library 2.0 practices, to other library colleagues, the library of NITR is organizing this workshop. Focus The workshop will focus on: Wordpress – Blog Engine Installation and Customization, Essential Wordpress plug-ins installation and configuration Mediawiki – Wiki Engine Installation and Customization, Essential extensions installation and configuration Drupal – Content Management System (CMS) installation and configuration Essential modules installation and Configuration Success of library 2.0 implementation lies on user participation. Relevant case studies on the successful implementation of wiki and blog will also be presented. Methodology The workshop will be completely based on practical training with presentations. Each participant will be given a high-end computer to learn step-by-step installation and customization of wiki, blog and CMS engines. Who can participate?
