Friends, Please see the article "The 14 universities with publication metrics researchers say are too good to be true", published in *Retraction Watch. *Here is the link: *https://retractionwatch.com/2025/01/10/bibliometrics-universities-publicatio... https://retractionwatch.com/2025/01/10/bibliometrics-universities-publicatio....* Here is an excerpt giving information on five institutions in India. UniversityArticles published, 2019Articles published, 2023% change Chandigarh University, Punjab, India 362 2,281 530 GLA University, Bharthia, India 259 1,521 487 Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, India 847 2,219 162 Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai, India 1,984 3,959 100 University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Uttarakhand, India 307 1,557 407 Should not UGC and the Ministry of Education investigate and take action , if needed? Should not our funding agencies such as DST, DBT and CSIR look into the publications of their fundees in these institutions? Have some Indian scientists lent their names (as honorary authors) to papers written from some of the universities in the Middle East listed in this paper? Their participation may be looked into by the ethical committees of our Science Academies and UGC. Could the impact of ranking agencies such as THE, QS and NIRF and the use of metrics by all and sundry without proper understanding of how to use them intelligently be the reasons for the proliferation of such practices ? Worth investigating. With warm regards, Subbiah Arunachalam http://orcid.org/0000-0002-4398-4658 http://www.researcherid.com/rid/B-9925-2009
