It keeps us healthy, calm and also develops our personality. In Modern age, sports are played, with competitive spirit, to win. Sports are not just a physical show or display of muscle power rather, it is the combination of both healthy body and tactic brain (information enriched mind). It is more entertaining to the spectators and brings fortunes to the sponsors. Almost all the countries are very serious about achieving higher excellence in sports because it can bring more attention and respect by other countries. Keeping all this in mind, sportspersons and sports scientists need a proper system that can provide the latest information timely, effectively and efficiently. Sports Information System (SIS) is a mechanism for collecting, managing and disseminating sports-related pieces of information to the seekers. In this regard, libraries and information centres can help them by developing their need-based collections and providing them IT-based information services. Our study highlights essential characteristics and components of SIS. It also focuses on the functioning of various sports libraries and sports organisations, different technologies used in SIS and functioning of SIS in Manipur as a case study.
