A.K.Dasgupta, veteran librarian, passed away after a brief illness at Hyderabad. He was 86. After superannuating from the Administrative Staff College of India, he designed and developed Research and Reference Division for the Eeendu/ETV Media Group. Apart from being an illustrious librarian, as a free lance writer and columnist, he contributed to news papers and magazines on matters of contemporary interest. Well known work: A.K. Dasgupta,An Essay in Personal Bibliography: A Bibliography of Writings on and by S.R. Ranganathan (Bombay: Asia, 1967). 405 p. Though confined to home, he was active and doing well all these years. Hospitalized with pneumonia, he was on life support system for a while, before the end came in at 9 pm on Monday. Prior to cremation on Tuesday morning, his eyes were donated to L.V. Prasad Eye Institute. His wife, Ashoka Dasgupta, also a librarian, pre-deceased him. The Dasguptas did not have children. Two of his nephews (one from Pune, and the other from Kolkata) took care of the situation at the end.
