In this era of information explosion, newer forms of information sources are slowly replacing the traditional ones. Today, 'Document Image Databases' have gained paramount popularity as an information source. This is being considered as an important topic of research in knowledge and data engineering. In an attempt to move towards the paperless society, large quantities of printed documents are digitized and stored as images in databases. In this context one major challenge that information scientists face is the retrieval of relevant information from image data than from text data. The present discussion revolves around the study of information retrieval from document image databases.
