INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE Documentation Research and Training Centre 8th Mile Mysore Road Bangalore 560059 Seminar on Different Interfaces of Digital Library: An Exploratory Study Abstract: Interface is point of interaction between two systems or workgroups. In terms of computer science or more precisely a software interface is a platform through which user can interact with the system. The digital library software has become very popular in libraries and has converted conventional libraries into digital libraries by creating a visual interface to them. There are several such packages present today and each of them has their own visual interface. These interfaces to digital libraries help humans in organizing, electronically accessing, and managing large, complex information spaces and can be seen as value-added service to digital libraries. This paper will describe design and usage of the various interfaces to digital libraries with special emphasis on DSpace, and discusses major challenges and generic issues related with these interfaces.
