Dear All, I am pleased to announce that Tolani College of Commerce(Re-accredited by NAAC as A Grade), Mumbai is organizing an UGC Sponsored National Conference on Digital Libraries:Re-shaping traditional Libraries into Next-Generation Libraries (NCDL) during 16th to 17th January 2014 ABOUT THE CONFERENCE: Library plays a crucial role in fostering knowledge for the development of the society; they are the major role players in the threshold of information dissemination activity dealing with organization, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information thus satisfying user expectations. But the information explosion and ICT revolution has created a major challenge for the library system to deal with the changing expectation of the user mass and availability of information in several places in several forms. To keep pace with this phenomenon ICT application into library services has arise, the emergence of ICT and its application in Library and Information Centers has revamped library services. Digital Libraries are the outcome of extensive research and development in the field of ICT and its application into library and information centers for enhanced services because in a technology driven world the libraries have to switch them selves from traditional libraries to Next generation libraries based on the need of the hour philosophy. Therefore, this conference has been planned to provide a platform to enable interaction among library professionals, digital library experts, researchers, academicians, and students to adopt, implement and utilize Digital Library and all other available latest technologies and their future implications towards shaping information paradigm to bridge the digital divide through knowledge sharing and to provide an opportunity to identify the strengths and gaps in the library system to suggest new models, policies and mechanisms for reshaping the traditional libraries into next generation libraries. AIMS & OBJECTIVES The conference aims to explore the topics in themes and sub themes through invited talks and presentations. Eminent researchers, academicians and practitioners will be invited to deliver the talks on the themes. The Core objectives of this conference are: To create an awareness and enthusiasm among the professional community for building digital libraries and implement related latest technologies for reshaping traditional libraries into Next. Generation Libraries. To be a major forum to discuss on various digital library issues and related emerging technologies thus to provide the road map for future improvement. The conference will also aim at strengthening academic collaboration and strategic alliance in the development of Digital Libraries in the country. To provide systems and programs that facilitate collaborative approach to digital library education, training and research to bridge digital divide. This conference would facilitate exchange of ideas and experiences to bridge knowledge gaps and Digital library solutions for managing library functions and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of library services in a networked world. TARGET AUDIENCE: The conference aims for cross-disciplinary participation by a galaxy of experts, professionals, researchers, academicians, students, and others interested in the field and is expected to become a platform to accommodate a maximum of 100 participants. The target audience may fall under the category of: Library and Information Science Professionals Academicians Knowledge Managers IT Professionals Policy makers Electronic Publishers All stakeholders in the digitization and knowledge sharing business CALL FOR PAPERS: NCDL 2014 invites original papers and case studies on various facets of the conference theme and related areas. Theme 1: Planning, development and management of Digital Libraries Theme 2: Digital Library Development: Technical Issues Theme 3: Collection Development in Digital environment Theme 4: Resource sharing and Networking Theme 5: IPR issues in Digital Era Theme 6: New Technologies and adaptability Theme 7: Change Management Issues & strategies. PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Participants are invited to contribute papers for presentation on the themes and other related aspects. The papers should be based on research surveys; case studies or implemented action plans and best practices rather than theoretical explanations. Submission of full papers(Maximum of 2500 words and limited to 10 pages) with an abstract in approximately 100 words, keywords and references on A4 size paper typed in MS Word with 1.5 c.m. margin on all sides using Times New Roman font in 12 points with single line spacing. Headings must be in capital bold and must be numbered consecutively in Arab numerals. E. g. 1, 2, 3, 3.1, 3.1.2, 3.2, 3.3, 4, 4.1, 4.1.2, 4.2, 5.Citations must be numbered continuously in Arab numerals and should be as per APA reference style. Details such as name of the author, designation, title of the article, abstract, name of the affiliating institution and E-mail address are to be included. The authors will get intimation regarding the acceptance of the paper by the Editorial Committee. The paper submitted for presentation should not have published/presented elsewhere. The Editorial Committee will have the right to edit the papers. Selected papers will be published in the proceedings.
