Re: [LIS-Forum] Wiley Library Awards - Nominations Open through October 31, 2017
Dear All, The Wiley India has called nominations from Academic and Research Libraries in the country for various Library Awards. I appreciate the efforts of the award winning publisher to honour the libraries and librarians for their noble work. However, after going through their nomination forms available online, I understand (if not wrong) that the Wiley is more interested to know the financial health of the Academic and Research Libraries in the country than to know about various measures taken by the libraries towards digital transformation. I failed to understand how the information sought such as (1) Total Annual Budget In Crores (2) Percentage Increase in Budget during Last 5 Years (3) Individual Subscription to Journals etc. correlate with the objectives of the said "Awards" ? The right thing, with the wrong motive, is the wrong thing. The views expressed here are my personal views. Actually its not a award nomination but its indirect objective may be about
a nomination of Librarian/identification of libraries who can give more
financial benefit to the concern awarding agencies !

My thoughts are also in sync with both of you.
The information such as this is irrelevant in this context.
Sad indeed.

Observing in another angle also
Finance is a vital element in any kind of experiments/innovation in
libraries.
Suppose the library with limited financial support achieves more results.
The know-how about financial details is critical in this angle for
decision making process
Merely understanding the library budget alone cant make any firm winner.
Since we dont know the parameters set by them in finding the winners, how
can we judge that this is right or wrong
i am also confused about the quantitative nature of questions to judge the
qualitative elements
simply my thoughts are shared.

Dear Sir, Thank you for acknowledging our efforts in organizing Wiley Library Awards and sharing your opinion about the criteria’s. These library indicators have been laid down by independent jury members who are eminent people within the librarian fraternity & Wiley has no role in the same. We hope this satisfies your concern, look forward to receive your nomination.
