Eighth National Convention on Strategies for Managing Knowledge Resources: Promoting Research, Education and Skills

The first and last day are exclusively designed for conducting tutorials by experts on the following topics: Pre-convention workshop on �Creation of Digital Libraries Using Greenstone Open Source Software� by experts from the National Centre for Science Information (NCSI), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The pre-convention workshop will provide conceptual and practical aspects of creating digital library collections. The workshop will cover topics such as: Digital Library functional components and infrastructural requirements; document formats and metadata; open source Digital Library software; and collection building using Greenstone software. The post-convention tutorial on MARC 21 will provide conceptual and practical aspects of creating MARC 21 records for library collections. The second and third day will focus on the theme of the National Convention �Strategies for Managing Knowledge Resources: Promoting Research, Education and Skills.� This theme is divided into several sub-themes, elaborated as under: The sub-themes will deal mainly with three aspects: a) Technology � infrastructure, technical solutions, open source software, commercial software, digitisation, networking infrastructure, storage infrastructure, interoperability, information storage and retrieval and interface technology. b) Management � Metadata management, Dublin Core, AACR II (ER) Storage management, Consortia management for E-journals, E-services, E-learning, Backup methods, Data and Information quality, Data security, Organisational issues and Case Studies, Human Resource Management, Search Engine strategies, Preservation strategies, Library Portals ` collection development of E-resources, Information seeking patterns. c) Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) issues- Security, legal and ethical issues, Copyright laws, Digital rights management. Submission of Papers Participants are welcome to contribute papers for presentation at the National Convention on the above sub-themes or related themes. The papers should be based on research surveys, case studies or action plans rather than theoretical explanations. Papers should reach The Director, DELNET, 40 Max Mueller Marg, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi � 110 003 on or before July 15, 2005. They should be submitted on A4 size paper along with an electronic copy or sent through E-mail. Papers should contain the name of the author, designation, title of the article, abstract, name of the affiliating institute, mailing address, telephone number, fax number and E-mail address. The contributors will be communicated about the acceptance of the paper by Director, DELNET to enable them to present their papers. Please ensure that the paper submitted should not have already been published elsewhere and on the Internet. The editors will have the right to edit the papers before acceptance is communicated.
