Hi, Colleagues may be interested in the progress made so far in translating the UDC Summary into languages of the Indian subcontinent (http://www.udcc.org/udcsummary/php/index.php). Currently UDC Summary has around 2400 classes and is available online in 42 languages. We hope to be able to provide exports for free use for training and indexing soon. At the moment we can send multilingual exports of what is available on upon request. In 2010, under the guidance of Dr. Devika Madalli and with help from DRTC (Bangalore) we managed to establish contact with volunteers in a number of universities and we have made good progress in making at least the top classes in a number of languages available online. Translation of a knowledge classification is by no means a trivial task and having more translators helping and contributing is paramount. The experience is also rewarding in terms of working towards an established knowledge organization terminology in any given language that can be shared online within and between communities.
