Dear Sir/Madam, Recently more than 150 First Grade Degree College librarians were appointed by the State Government. Now if hypothetically put it there are more than 300 librarians serving in first grade colleges across the state. There are lots of issues and problems librarians often have to face in government colleges. For instance, book acquisition policy, recent Collegiate Department decision on book circulations (they have not consulted government college librarians while formulating the rules for issuing books during examination period), and many other issues. We have no representative who can time to time bring all these issues to the higher authorities at the Department of Collegiate Education. Although we have Karnataka State College Librarians Association (KSCLA), they represent larger section- aided colleges, private colleges and government colleges together. This creates a kind of conflict of interest. The KSCLA has to protect the interest of all the stakeholders. But the diversification is so wide that some time the rules suited for aided college libraries may not suit for the government college libraries. Recent circulation policy is a case in point. The KSCLA has done its best to protect the interest of the government librarians. But as the college librarians’ number has increased, it is right time to form an association to protect the interest of the government college librarians.
