| The World Bank Group and the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) invite you to a panel discussion for
International Open Access Week 2017
October 26 from 2:00 – 3:30pm EDT, (16:00 – 17:30 GMT)
at live.worldbank.org
This year’s theme, “Open in order to…” invites participants to fill in the blank with their own vision of Open Access (OA). “Open in order to…” also serves as a prompt to move beyond talking about openness itself and to focus on how open access can be used as an enabling strategy — whether for an individual discipline, an institution, or in a specific context; then to take action to realize these benefits.
The World Bank has chosen to celebrate with the theme “Open in order to end extreme poverty” – the World Bank’s mission and rationale behind its OA initiatives. Panelists from a variety of perspectives and organizations will share their thoughts on how OA activities contribute to their work and goals, as well as some of the challenges that remain.
Opening remarks from
Denis Robitaille, World Bank Group CIO and VP, Information & Technology Solutions
Panelists: Thanos Giannakopoulos, Principal Librarian, United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library Timothy Herzog, Data Scientist, The World Bank Group Soazic Elise Wang Sonne, PhD research fellow, United Nations University (UNU-MERIT) in Maastricht, the Netherlands Elisa Liberatori Prati (Panel Moderator), World Bank Group Chief Archivist Nick Shockey (Audience Moderator), Director of Programs & Engagement, SPARC
We invite you to watch online and join the conversation. We also encourage you to organize watch parties and celebrate Open Access Week in your own community!
