Dear friends, I am happy to share that the Department of Library and Information Science, is organising the 13th Informatics Endowment Lecture on Digital Libraries on April 29, 2016 at 3:30 PM. ---- Dr. Padmini Ray Murray of Shrishti School of Art, Design and Technology and a well-known digital humanities scholar will be delivering the lecture on ³Location is everything: Towards an Indian Digital Humanities.² ---- Honorable Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore, Dr. K.S. Rangappa will preside ---- Mr. N.V. Sathyanarayana, an alumnus of the department and CMD of Informatics India Limited, the company behind the endowment will be the guest of honour. Venue : International School of Information Management, Manasagangotri, Mysore-570006 ----- Speaker Bio: Dr. Padmini Ray Murray is having some extensive work in the area of digital scholarship to her credit. She holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh, UK; MA from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and BA from St Stephen¹s College, Delhi. Currently she is a faculty in digital humanities at Shrishti School of Art, Design an Technology, Bangalore and Visiting Fellow, at The Centre for the Study of Developing Societies,Delhi. Previously she has taught as a lecturer in Publishing Studies & Digital Media, Stirling Centre for International Publishing and Communication, University of Stirling,and as a lecturer in Publishing, Department of Culture,Literature and Publishing, School of Arts & Creative Industries, Edinburgh Napier University. Currently Dr. Murray is Vice Chair of Global Outlook: Digital Humanities; Managing Editor, DH Commons; Editor in Chief, SHARP News, and Board Member, Wikimedia Foundation. Her body of work includes articles in peer reviewed journals including the Visible Language: Journal of Visual Communication Research¹, Publishing Research Quarterly¹ and others and several book chapters in several books including the forthcoming The Digital Book¹ published by the Cambridge History Press; The History of Oxford University Press¹ by the Oxford University Press; Byron in London¹ by the Cambridge Scholars Press; The Edinburgh History of the Book in Scotland¹,by the Edinburgh University Press, and others. Dr. Murray has won numerous grants and awards including: * AHRC funded Unbox Fellowship - Unplay - January 2013. * Co-Investigator, AHRC Digital Transformations Grant, (along with Professor Claire Squires) for the 'The Book Unbound: Disruption and Disintermediation in the Digital Age' project * AHRC funded project for the digitation of Early Bengali Printed Materials, 1778-1914', a partnership between the British Library and the National Library of India, 2011. * Alt-W New Media Award for the Electric Bookshop Project (along with Peggy Hughes and Claire Stewart) ----- It is my pleasure to invite you to this lecture event.
