Reg Depreciation value of Libray Books and Journals
Dear LIS Professionald, Such questions have always been raised by bureaucrats or auditors However,if we look at central Finance rules No 99 and 116 ( OM no F23(7).11(A)/83Dt 7.02.1984/18 )books are not treated as Stores Items and If the people asking these questions refer these rule or they are told to refer it then questions of calculating successive asset value of books and journals and the depreciation value of them will not arise . We stock in library knowledge carriers and not the deadstock items. If we are able to calculate current or successive value of information contained in books and journals then certainly we can calculate the same Logically if the information in books and journals is still valuable then perhaps the value would appreciate There could be two possibilities that either it is obsolete or most valuable items . So in conclusion in aggregate it is not possible to calculate total current value of books and journals So the bureaucrats who raise question may elaborate on these facts .
