He co-edited the following four volumes that helped define book history as a field in India: Print Areas (2004), Moveable Types (2008), New Word Order (2011) and Founts of Knowledge (2015). He was associate editor for South Asia for the Oxford Companion to the Book (2010). This is the second in a series of interviews on the development, production and use of schoolbooks in India in the last 200 years. These events are a part of activities related to the soon-to-be-launched Schoolbooks Archive Portal, a project of the Knowledge Resource Centre, Azim Premji Foundation.
