Message from Prof. R L Raina, Director, LBSIM. LBSIM DELHI announces a Management Development Programme on Managerial Excellence through Effective Communication. INTRODUCTION In today's world, competitive advantage originates more from knowledge than from the traditional sources of labour and capital. Knowledge has become the leveraging factor in making growth more robust, be it at the micro level or macro. And when knowledge is created, the information base becomes naturally widened and thereby its complexity increases almost exponentially. It is in this context that 'communication' comes to play a pivotal role in facilitating the process of organizational growth. Experience suggests, without this happening, organizations literally fail to take a leap forward in the right direction. Effective Communication', aimed at maintaining a constant and open flow of information inside and outside the organization, will hold the key as it can ensure right contact between the right seeker, producer and user of knowledge at right time. In other words, 'effective communication' has become a critical success factor for individuals as well as organizations to stay competitive in the present day context of 'knowledge-based economy'. PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to : * Demonstrate improved interpersonal and group communication skills * Design and communicate effective formal and informal messages * Make an effective business presentation with appropriate media support * Demonstrate improved persuasion and influencing skills for better negotiations * Develop sensitivity to Cross Cultural Communication BROAD CONTENTS In line with the above scenario, the programme has been designed around the following contents: * Expressive and receptive communication skills * Interpersonnel and group communication * Listening and non-verbal communication skills * Organising and writing business messages, proposals and formal reports * Preparing and delivering winning presentations * Communication in Negotiations * Cross Cultural Communication * Leveraging information technology for effective communication WHO SHOULD ATTEND The programme is aimed at executives, middle level managers, programme managers, trainers and teachers involved in Communication, Media Relations, PR & Knowledge/Information Management initiatives, and belonging to private industry, government agencies, the military, small business and independent consultants. Teachers in business schools, involved in teaching courses in the area of 'Communication for Management' will stand benefited a great deal particularly in terms of updating their knowledge and skill in what, why and how of teaching course/s in the area. METHODOLOGY The programme will follow a systematic approach to communication topics from basic skills and principles to more advanced strategies and techniques applied by managers everyday, besides the communication challenges, which they might have to face in future. With individualized coaching and constructive peer critique the course content draws extensively on real-life experiences and focuses on case studies, discussions, inspiring films and practical application of communications skills. The course will also arm you with useful communication tools such as worksheets, checklists, and templates to help you implement what you've learned. Lunch, dinner and tea on all the three days will be provided by the Institute. REGISTRATION The enclosed nomination form duly filled in along with an Account Payee Demand Draft for the requisite nomination fee, made out in favour of the "Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Delhi" and drawn on any bank at Delhi, should reach at least ten days before the commencement date of the programme. LAST DATE FOR WITHDRAWAL In the event of cancellation of nomination, 50 per cent of the fee would be refunded provided we receive such information at least seven days before the commencement date of the programme. PROGRAMME DIRECTOR Dr. Roshan Lal Raina is Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), a premier and dynamic institution in management education. Before joining LBSIM, Dr. Raina was Professor, 'Communication' at the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIML), where he was also responsible for developing and managing state-of-the-art and world class academic infrastructure, including the learning resource centre. At IIML, Prof. Raina also successfully initiated and handled activities in areas like 'Corporate Communication', Media Relations' Student Affairs', and 'Alumni Affairs'. Dr. Raina's contributions in matters academic and administrative are many and varied. Dr. Raina had several prestigious assignments in educational institutes in US, UK, France, Germany, and Canada. Reputed organizations like the Fulbright Foundation (USA), the British Council (UK), the Max Mueller Bhawan (Germany), the ESCP-EAP (France), and the IDRC (Canada) sponsored these assignments. At home, too, he has worked for the Ministry of Agriculture, DSIR, and CSIR, all under GOI. In terms of research, he has authored 2 and edited 7 best selling books, and has made significant contributions (75 research papers in all to-date) in several peer-reviewed national and international journals: the areas include 'Corporate Communication & Media Relations', 'TQM', 'IT Applications', 'HRM' and 'Marketing in the Information Sector'. He has also presented 75 papers in national and international conferences/seminars floated by reputed organizations, universities included. He is on the editorial board of two professional journals in the country. His research and teaching are in the general area of Business Communication, Corporate Communication and Cross Cultural Communication. A regular speaker at top management Institutes, Dr. Raina is a frequent consultant for a wide range of clients and develops training programmes in the area of Effective Communication, Corporate Communication, Crisis Communication, Persuasive Presentation and Conflict Resolution through Communication for organization in both Public and Private Sector.
