One day workshop on 'Innovative Information Literacy: active learning and engaging pedagogies’ on 8th March, 2019 (Friday) at IIT Bombay

DearAll, Greetings! We are glad to inform youthat the Central Library, IIT Bombay is organizing one day workshopon "Innovative Information Literacy: active learning and engagingpedagogies" on 8th March, 2019 Friday). Despite user’s’wide use of Google Scholar and search engines, in order to succeed indeveloping critical thinking skills such as analysis and evaluation,not only in school/university but in the workplace our users need tolearn about digital literacies. IL training is necessary forLibrarians so as to improve library users abilities to transfer moreeffectively into professional work environments To become lifelong learners and get meaningful professional work, students need not onlyto learn IL but also retain critical thinking skills (IL). Studiesshow that students retain critical thinking skills most effectivelywhen engaging in active learning exercises. This workshop willhighlight effective ways librarians can engage students ininformation literacy training through interactive and innovativeactivities. About the Workshop Resource Persons: 1.AditiGupta Aditi Gupta is the Learning & Research Librarian:Engineering & Science, Mearns Centre for Learning - McPhersonLibrary and she has worked in libraries for the past 12 years. She isthe recipient of the ALA Diversity Research Grant for her studytitled “Exploring library perceptions, reading habits andlibrary usage of the South Asian population in BC”. She hasserved as the Chair for the CLA Research & Development GrantsJury and is a current member of the American Library Association,American College of Research Libraries and the American Society ofEngineering Education – Engineering Libraries Division. Aditi hasattended the Librarians Research institute and collaborated andpresented at a number of national and international libraryconferences. She is also a member of the ACRL Science and technologyAwards Committee and a Peer Reviewer for Emerald Reference Reviews. 2.RebeccaRaworth Rebecca Raworth is the Health Sciences Librarian atthe University of victoria Libraries. She received her Master ofLibrary and Information Science from the University of britishColumbia in 1990 and has worked in colleges, hospitals anduniversities since then. Her research interests include healthinformatics, health equity issues, diversity issues in health careand in libraries and promoting multicultural opportunities inlibraries and beyond. She is a peer-reviewer of the Journal ofMedical Libraries Association and is an active member of the CanadianHealth Libraries Association, American Medical Library Associationand the European Association for Health Information and Libraries.Rebecca has taken several graduate courses on research methodsincluding courses on survey methodologies, designing and runningfocus groups and is experienced in facilitating InformationLiteracy workshops. 3.Dr Satish Kanamadi SatishKanamadi is presently serving as Librarian at Tata Institute ofSocial Science, Mumbai. He is a science graduate and has completedhis Master’s(1995) and Doctoral Studies (2005) from KarnatakaUniversity, Dharwad. He was conferred with two Gold Medals for FirstRank at Masters and was awarded UGC Junior Research Fellowshipin 1997. He did his PG Diploma in Library Automation and Networking(2000) from Central University of Hyderabad. His major contributionsat TISS include "Creating a Networked Library System" tointegrate all four campuses of TISS and developing a functional andeasy to navigate library portal http://library.tiss.eduto deliver web based library services. An innovative "LiaisonLibrarian" service involving 12 member team has been establishedto provide focussed and personalised learning and research supportservices. He was the core member of the library leadership, heworked towards Library's Strategic Plan 2007 to conceive academicprogrammes in information sciences. As per its Strategic Plan 2007,TISS Library has launched a cutting edge dual mode PG Diploma inDigital Library and Information Management (2010) and Master ofLibrary and Information Science (2013) and Direct PhD Programme(2012) In September 2010, he was awarded the CommonwealthProfessional Fellowship by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission,UK and was in London School of Economics, London, UK for threemonths.His research contributions include articles in national andinternational journals, edited volumes, book chapters, etc. He hasbeen the coordinator for several workshops, conferences and UGCrefresher courses.
