Dear all, For a few days, this discussion is going on and on. When will it be stopped. I think we are throwing dirt to each other. Nobody is analysing the real problem. If any librarian (already in job) is able to do Ph. D. as a casual or part time scholar, then what harm s/he is doing? We have to see it as a positive attitude of that scholar librarian. The question is "Are we willing to upgrade ourselves?" If the answer is 'yes', then why we are fighting for? All the times, there were some orthodox people. It is there today. And it will be there tomorrow. Keeping in mind the same we have to go ahead. I, as a library professional feel that we should go with the modern trend. If the modern trend has the demand for Ph. D. for upgrade, then what is the problems if someone can manage his duty as well as can do Ph. D? I think some senior library professionals don't want the junior should come forward. If you see in another angle it is dirty politics they are playing. In the western countries a person has several choices to upgrade the education. But in our country we are fighting for education. It is shamful to us (particularly for library professional) that we are protesting against education. If you say about the quality of education system. I think, we have to do lot of exercise on it. We can take example Well known scientists and authors, we can see they have done their best during their on job period. This is not to hurt anybody. This is totally my view. Entire country has seen my expertice and initiatives done in Goa University and Bangalore University as University Librarian. I was also selected by the Fulbright Foundation as a Scholar in the year 2002-03 If (Dr?)Mr. Rajashekharan wants to challenge my knowledge content, I am ready. My another question to Mr. Rajashekharan is that: Are these so called standard Universities which are helping for advancing fronteres of knowledge have done away with part time research in all the subjects or only for Library Science? If an Assistant Registrar or any non teaching employee of these standard Universities desires to register for his doctorate degree in Social Science subjects, is he permitted to do or not? If yes for the above question, why not for Librarians? Mr. Rajashekharan, using standard English Language will not elevate a Librarians to a higher standards. He need to serve people with dedication and gain their confidence. This work can be done by any parochial careeristic aspirant and under-employed librarians.
