I entirely agree with Dr Vyas Moorthy. But, let us put this hard-hitting truth in a positive and palatable form. What librarians deal with is only recorded ‘know-what’ (Declarative), and ‘know-why’ (Causal) information. The other forms of information/knowledge i.e. ‘know-how’ (Procedural), ‘know-when’ (Conditional) and ‘know-with’ (Relational) are still outside the purview of a library. [LIS research may be inching towards all this. More collaborative research is required.] In addition, there are tacit knowledge such as ‘show-how’, ‘show-why’ etc. Therefore, it is a huge universe of knowledge. Extending our domain of activity is desirable. But, looking to the current scenario, I feel happy even if librarians serve well in the area where they have specialization.
