INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUTE Documentation Research and Training Centre 8th Mile Mysore Road Bangalore 560059 Seminar on Libraries and Cloud Computing Abstract :- Today the web is not only a collection of web sites, pages, and forms. It can host much more, including rich applications, public datasets, software interfaces, and customizable databases. Cloud computing is a useful abstraction, where an application or other capacity is made available over the internet as a service. The hardware/software behind this service is abstracted as a cloud. All needed is an internet connection and anything can be accessed in the cloud. In the light of above, libraries are not an exception to the changing times. Libraries have been adopting cloud-based solutions for different services including electronic journal access management, statistics tracking, digital library hosting, and even integrated library system hosting. This has allowed libraries to make strategic choices about the allocation of resources and to offer better service than in-house solutions. So the impact of cloud computing and its services on libraries will be highlighted. With the growing uptrend in hosted/proxy services, cloud computing has already started making inroads in offering e-information services management and access to these touted electronic libraries - library without walls and the hanging libraries on clouds have arrived here. http://www.librarytechnology.org/ltg-displaytext.pl?RC=15267 http://www.librarytechnology.org/ltg-displaytext.pl?RC=15248 Student Presenter: Alka Rani Singh Venue: DRTC Classroom Date : 10-01-11 Time : 2:00 PM All are cordially invited Devika P.
