Dear All, The Kerala Library Association (KLA) report with deep sorrow , the sad demise of Professor A.B. George, the veteran LIS professional of Kerala, on 15th August 2007at Trivandrum. Once known as the ‘Charming Librarian of South India ’ and popularly known as “ABG” among his fellow professionals, Prof. A.B. George had an illustrious professional track record spanning five decades. He had his early education in LIS in the Madras University in 1954. His major assignments include Librarian: U.C. College, Alwaye (Kerala) ; Allahabad Agricultural Institute, Naini (UP) ; St. John’s College, Agra ; Bibliographer : Madras University ; Lecturer : DLIS, University of Kerala ; Deputy Librarian :University of Kerala ; State Librarian : Kerala ; First University Librarian : Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT) and Librarian : Centre for Water Resources Development & Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode.He was also a Research Guide of the Calicut University. He had been associated with various Commissions & Committees appointed by the Government of Kerala on matters related to LIS profession. He was an active member of KLA and had been its President too. Another facet of his personality was his role as a Social Worker. He had made an indelible mark of change, wherever he worked. A Festschrift Volume in honour of his professional contributions and with the title “ Science & Technology Libraries & Information Systems in India ” planned to have been published by K L A, was in the final stage of its publication. We feel deeply sad to bring it out now as his Memorial Volume!
